SwiftReach ~ Emergency Community Notifications
Through a company called the SwiftReach, the Moonachie Police Department uses an Emergency Community Communications System to instantly distribute important and potentially life saving information by telephone to thousands of residents and businesses.
The most recent example of the most important uses of the emergency communications system was during hurricane Sandy. The Police Department was able to send messages about emergency shelters available, areas of town to avoid, etc., during the early hours of the storm. When the flood waters started to rush in the Police Department was able to alert thousands of residents to remain indoors and, where possible, move to the upper most floors of their homes. Many of these notifications were received by residents even before the water had arrived at their homes. This system was in operation even after the Police Department itself was lost to the flood, as it can be used off site by any officer with a computer or phone, at the direction of commanding officers.
This Emergency Communications System will be most valuable when alerting residents and business of the need for immediate action and/or evacuation in events such as:

- Fires
- Floods
- Police Activity in the area
- Emergency Road Work / Detours
- Storm shelter information
- Emergency Contact Information
- Etc.
When receiving an emergency communication call from the Moonachie Police Department or Borough, caller ID should indicated a call from 201-641-9100 or 201-641-1813, depending on the nature of the call. Please be patient and listen to the entire message as it may prove vitally important. Also, the messages repeat before the system disconnects.
If you have a land-line telephone, your number is in our system as it is updated regularly directly from phone companies records. If for some reason you do not believe or are unsure if your number is in the system, please call Moonachie Police Headquarters. Cellular phones may be added to the database if that is your primary telephone.
Please be reminded to sign up for NIXLE alert messages. These may be used more often for less urgent messages regarding traffic situations, detours, etc. However, the NIXLE system will at times be used for more urgent messages. It's Free, so please sign up.
Thank you.
